Paresis or Paralysis of the Facial Nerve

During formation of the ear, abnormalities of the facial nerve may occur.  Careful mapping of the facial nerve course is done in every case with a CT scan.  Observing the way the face functionally moves helps to determine the most appropriate route of intervention when considering the different surgical options.  In some situations, extreme weakness of the facial nerve can be corrected, improved, or stabilized with certain interventions.
