Skin and soft tissue covering the structures of the face, jaw, and eye can be affected in patients with Atresia-Microtia. In certain cases, asymmetry can be improved by transferring fat, bone, or muscle from other parts of a patient’s body to the face in minimally invasive procedures, which may not only improve looks but also function. Pediatric plastic surgeons and/or craniofacial plastic surgeons with knowledge of atresia and microtia are best suited to treat these abnormalities. Patients with a syndrome or hemi-facial microsomia frequently benefit from use of these advanced techniques.
