Patient Testimonials for Atresia Repair

Will the hair grow back where the graft is taken from on the scalp?

Yes, the hair generally grows back quickly after a skin graft taken from the scalp. As with all skin graft sites, care must be used to prevent damaging the new skin over the donor site. When a skin graft is combined with a and tempero-parietal fascia flap is used, which only occurs when the patient is undergoing the combined atresia-microtia surgery, the hair follicles are not damaged but may take longer to re-grow. Usually regrowth begins within a few weeks but can take up to 3 months. Occasionally the re-growth is described by parents as "patchy" but this is not a cause for concern, eventually the patches without hair fill in and all of the hair should regrow.
