Patient Testimonials for Atresia Repair

Where do the skin grafts used to create the canal and cover the ear come from?

Formerly, the skin grafts came from either the abdomen or the groin. Using these areas created some discomfort for the patients and sometimes caused scarring. In 2008, thanks to new technology, we started taking the skin grafts from the scalp for atresia repair and Medpor auricular reconstruction surgeries. The skin grafts are so thin that there is no hair growth on the graft. This is much less painful for the patient, and does not leave a visible scar.
